Mount Dennis impresses with large turnout to Queen's Park

At the invitation of official opposition MPPs Jill Andrew (St. Paul's) and Joel Harden (Ottawa-Centre), over 40 Mount Dennis community members and Save Eglinton Flats Coalition partners visited Queen's Park to share their concerns regarding the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension.

The visit started with a Sacred Fire led by urban Indigenous leaders in Queen's Park North to honour the trees that the Ford Government and Metrolinx plans to destroy in Mount Dennis.

This was followed by a press conference where both MPPs spoke on behalf of the Mount Dennis community. Coalition spokesperson, Neiland Brissenden, and Cynthia Bell, ENAGB Indigenous Youth Agency's Executive Director, spoke on behalf of the coalition and the local urban Indigenous community.

After the press conference, the Mount Dennis community watched from the gallery as MPPs Jill Andrew and Joel Harden tried to ask MPP Michael Ford (York—South Weston) why he's been completely absent on this issue despite having made promises to advocate for the community during the provincial election campaign.
